Straw Bale Gardening~the planting

I planted two cherry tomato plants, 1 cucumber,6 assorted peppers and some lettuce last night in the straw bales. The pepper plant came with a free Lady Bug! Now for the growing! I need to water every day, the bales tend to dry out faster than if the plants were in the ground.

Straw Bale Gardening

My straw bales have been sitting for 10 days and are ready to plant. I have been doing quite a bit of research on straw bale gardening. It is for people that can't get down on their knees for long. I am anxious to see if I can make it work! It has been pretty cool the past couple of days, after having some beautiful spring weather. I am looking forward to planting my vegetables. I plan on posting my successful or non-successful venture.

Kimberly's Birthday Party

We celebrated Kimberly's 37th Birthday Party on May 1 (her Birthday is the 3rd)! Allison brought a wonderful Ice Cream Cake from Dairy Queen and we had Kimberly's traditional dinner of Taco Salad. Yummy!

We also started a fire in the Fire Pit and roasted Marshmellows., it was an interesting time with three little kids..aged 2,3 and 4. Josephine decided she would just rather have marshmellows uncooked and Henry was bound and determined to catch his on fire. Jacob was a little scared of the whole process but managed to have quite a few even then. Cody tried to act totally bored like a 16 year old should be but decided to jump in to the activities anyway.

New Chicks!

We have new baby chicks! We ordered them, and they came in a this box. It amazes me that they are healthy after being mailed! We are hoping they are all female..they assure us that at least 95 percent are. I found out the hard way that we cannot encourage friendship between Roosters, we had to rehome two of our last bunch because they were male. They are all in a "brooder" in our garage. Every time I open it they are bigger!
